In our last entry about the chromatic dragons of Neverwinter, we’ll speak on the most famous – or infamous – of them all: the red dragon. Much like blue dragons, red dragons are highly confident, selfish and find pride in their own vanity; so much so that they tend to make snap decisions due to their confidence that any decision they make will be the correct one. Unlike blue dragons, they do not follow a hierarchy and follow only themselves. Red dragons are among the most powerful of the chromatic dragons who often find enjoyment in destruction and death.
Red dragons make their homes in caves and mountains, sometimes in or near a volcano. Their pride has them living in the highest mountains they can find due to their need to feel above and more dominant than everything else. Being highly territorial, simply stepping foot into a domain that a red dragon “owns” will often result in being immediately attacked. Red dragons breathe the traditional fire, but would rather not use it when killing enemies due to the fear of harming any gold it can collect.
Among the most notable red dragons in Neverwinter is Lostmauth, who is surrounded by his horde of gold he has accumulated through the years. Adventurers may attempt to slay him by taking part in the Lair of Lostmauth dungeon. New to Rise of Tiamat, the red dragon herald Hohengroth has been summoned in the Well of Dragons for adventurers to fight, as well. That’s it for the chromatic dragons.
